Week 6 Top 30

Pow days hitting Vermont the hardest skewed the rankings this week but there are still very good options if you can’t make it to the Green Mountain State.

1.        Sugarbush (+21)

86, eighty-six new trails opened this week and that is not even mentioning the opening of Mount Ellen and the brand-new Heaven’s Gate Quad. Although this didn’t go as planned, the quad should be up and ready to go in the near future.

2.        Mad River Glen (-1)

Ski it if you can, Mad River Glen continues to offer great early season skiing and has earned its position in the top five.

3.        Jay Peak (-1)

The tram is now open at Jay Peak and they just had a powder week, the perfect storm heading into the holiday break.

4.        Killington (+1)

Another mountain with over 100 trails opens including Bear Mountain, Killington offers terrain over the entire mountain.

5.        Stowe (-1)

The gondola is now open with trails off Mansfield and the upper part of Spruce Peak is running along with more of the difficult terrain on the Forerunner side.

6.        Cannon (+9)

Another mountain opening the tram, Cannon has opened the widest trail in New England and started opening the Front 5.

7.        Okemo (+1)

If you’re in southern Vermont, Okemo is one of the best options that provides classic New England skiing and has a good ski community.

8.        Sunday River (-2)

Sunday River opens up more trails but drops a little because mountains ahead of them got hit with more snow.

9.        Stratton (-2)

More trails open on the Sun Bowl means Stratton is on its way to hitting its full potential and that is great for skiing in southern Vermont.

10.   Loon (-7)

Loon drops down but remains one of the best mountains in the Granite State and is getting more trails below the Kanc 8 open.

11.   Waterville Valley (-1)

Oblivion is open and providing more terrain across another side of the mountain which allows for less crowded trails on the already open side.

12.   Pico (+9)

Pico has more than half its trails open in the first week and they are lighting up the snow guns right now.

13.   Mount Snow (+1)

Ropes drop on Carintha and the Sunbrook Area and Mount Snow is one of the places to be right now.

14.   Sugarloaf (-3)

Opening trails in the newest part of the mountain is a fun way to build off rebounding from a lot of rain last week

15.   Bretton Woods (+1)

The Rosebrook Quad is open with High Ridge providing a great view of Mount Washington all the way to the Zephyr Quad.

16.   Smugglers Notch (-7)

Smuggs drops a little while only having Sterling Mountain and some of Morse Mountain open and continues to have a good early season start.

17.   Bolton Valley (-5)

Another mountain dropping at no fault of their own, Bolton Valley continues to open terrain across the mountain with more trails off Vista Peak opening.

18.   Sunapee (-5)

Sunapee is the best option near the Upper Valley area right now with scenic views and a good learning area open.

19.   Berkshire East (-1)

The best option in Massachusetts when you consider terrain, culture, and price point.

20.   Gunstock (+5)

Gunstock has gotten more and more trails open from the summit along with their terrain park area open this week and combine that with the views of Winnipesaukee, it’s a great option.

21.   Saddleback (-1)

Saddleback remains a solid option but for the best days requires a lot of natural snow.

22.   Bromley (-5)

While opening terrain, Bromley does drop in the rankings a little because there is just more opening around them but they did get terrain open off the East Meadow Chairlift.

23.   Pats Peak (=)

Pats Peak is cruising down the road to being 100% open and just needs FIS Race Trail and Vortex to have the entire front side of the mountain open.

24.   Crotched (-5)

Although they opened Milky Way and Supernova, it’s just not enough to keep pace with their top competition in the region, Pats Peak.

25.   Black Mountain NH (+1)

Lots of changes continue to be announced at Black Mountain but this season may be its best in a while and while we may be unable to visit this year, we encourage everyone who can to go for at least a day.

26.   Ski Sundown (NR)

First mountain to be 100% open and a brand-new quad makes Ski Sundown a must visit this week.

27.   Wildcat (=)

Polecat opened so that should help with the top crowding.

28.   Pleasant Mountain (NR)

Another new quad debuting this time at Pleasant Mountain, the summit being open is huge for the mountain.

29.   Attitash (NR)

Attitash opened Saco and is working on getting Bear Peak open as you read this.

30.   Magic Mountain (NR)

Magic Mountain gets back in the Top 30 this week and is still a fun option with the left side of the mountain open.

Biggest Jump: Sugarbush (22 to 1)

Biggest Drop: Loon (3 to 10), Smugglers Notch (9 to 14)

New To Rankings: Ski Sundown, Pleasant Mountain, Attitash, Magic Mountain

Dropped From Rankings: Catamount, Jiminy Peak, Southington, Ragged
