It was an extremely good winter in New England this season with no shortage of powder days including multiple weekend ones at the end of the season. We gave out some awards last week so we’ll have a brief recap before we get to the final Top 30 of the 2024-2025 ski season.
Ascutney Award – Black Mountain (NH)
Independent Mountain of the Year – Black Mountain (NH)
Black Mountain takes home our most prestigious award in the Ascutney Award after making a major comeback this season. From announcing that they were closing for good to having the season go into May this year and reaching 100% of trails open it was nothing short of impressive. As for what the future holds it will be interesting to see the transition of ownership from Indy Pass to the Co-op but Black Mountain should be one of the top mountains in the Mount Washington Valley for years to come now.
Mountain of the Year – Jay Peak
Best Snow – Jay Peak
Best Glades – Jay Peak
Jay Peak took home three awards this year after having the snowiest season of the east and was voted Mountain of the Year by our Instagram followers. Naturally 475 inches of snow in one season will win you best snow on the east coast and that combined with the tree skiing at Jay Peak makes it the perfect choice for best glades this season.
Best Grooming – Bretton Woods
The Best Grooming award seems like the Bretton Woods invitational as they have 2/4 of them now and their snowcat operators do a really good job putting fresh corduroy down each day. When its open, Little Tuckerman’s to Oscar Barron’s is your best bet for cruising a groomer.
Small Mountain of the Year – Bousquet
The Berkshires were the place to ski this year in Southern New England and Bousquet takes home this award for providing a great winter experience to the locals in Pittsfield while also getting most of their terrain open.
Best Snowmaking – Killington
Having to change a plan that has worked so well for so many years is always difficult as Killington had to move spring skiing off Superstar to the Canyon Area and were able to hold on to snow to May 10th in a very rainy spring. This also takes into account how they got the snow guns fired up early and had a November opening.
Anyways its onto the final Top 30 of the 2024-2025 season!
Here’s how the order was determined:

7. Sugarloaf (-5)
8. Cannon (+4)

A trio of New Hampshire mountains sit just outside the top ten led by Bretton Woods which hopped Waterville Valley and Loon. Smuggler’s Notch dropped out of the top ten and landed at 14 while Bolton Valley may be one of the most underrated mountains in the region jumps into the top half of the top 30.
16. Berkshire East (+4)
17. Stratton (=)
18. Pico (+11)
19. Mount Snow (-3)
20. Sunapee (-1)
Berkshire East jumps Stratton as the top mountain in southern New England while Pico received a huge bump from 29 to 18 after having a stellar season which saw them stay at 100% open for a few weeks. Mount Snow and Sunapee drop slightly.
21. Wildcat (-13)
22. Magic Mountain (NR)
23. Gunstock (=)
24. Bromley (+1)
25. Black Mountain NH (NR)
Wildcat drops to 21 after having a nightmare of a season while Magic Mountain and Black Mountain (NH) join the rankings after having extremely good seasons. Gunstock battled through Panorama Quad troubles to stick in the top 25 and the sun mountain had a really nice season.
26. Attitash (-5)
27. Pleasant Mountain (-5)
28. Burke (-4)
29. Cranmore (NR)
30. Pats Peak (=)
