Jay Peak reaches 100% open, Pico opens with a bang, and a Rhode Island pow day shake up the rankings!

1.       Jay Peak (=)

2.       Killington (+4)

3.       Bretton Woods (+7)

4.       Sunday River (=)

5.       Pico (NR)

Jay Peak has the most snow and is the only mountain to reach 100% open so it looks like the only thing that could dethrone them from first is a week of wind hold. Killington has opened up terrain on Skye Peak and Bear Mountain this week and almost has 100 trails open while Bretton Woods nearly has all of the Rosebrook and Zephyr areas open while offering some glades. Sunday River holds at four with terrain off six peaks and how about Pico opening for the season on Friday with 43 out of 47 trails open. An impressive opening week for them puts them in the top five.

6.       Stowe (-3)

7.       Mad River Glen (=)

8.       Sugarloaf (-3)

9.       Sugarbush (-7)

10.  Waterville Valley (+4)

Stowe continues to opened the gondola in the Manfield area while Mad River Glen continued to add terrain throughout the weekend. Sugarloaf opened up terrain on West Mountain while Sugarbush continued to have most trails open in their main area. Waterville Valley has also sustained 40 trails throughout the week.

11.  Smugglers Notch (-3)

12.  Loon (-3)

13.  Saddleback (+2)

14.  Cannon (-1)

15.  Bolton Valley (+5)

Smuggs opened Madonna and Morse for the first time this season but during the week they closed down Madonna which makes sense but significantly changes how they stack up against other mountains. Similar story for Loon with South Peak and Timbertown as they opened for the weekend but closed during the week. Saddleback offers almost all terrain between the Kennebago Quad and Rangeley High Speed Express while Cannon opened up the learning area and Mittersill. Bolton also saw a jump in terrain this week as all non gladed trails off Wilderness Peak are now open!

16.  Okemo (-4)

17.  Stratton (-6)

18.  Gunstock (-1)

19.  Bromley (=)

20.  Pleasant Mountain (+3)

Okemo pushes ahead of Stratton as Jackson Gore has opened for the season which in our opinion has the best trails at Okemo. Gunstock has opened the Recoil trails this week while Bromley opened some beginner terrain along with Sunder. Pleasant Mountain makes the jump up after adding Jack Spratt and Cooley’s while having some of the most underrated views in the state.

21.  Sunapee (-3)

22.  Burke (NR)

23.  Mount Snow (-7)

24.  Berkshire East (+6)

25.  Cranmore (NR)

Sunapee opened up Ridge and a few beginner trails this past week while Burke grew their trail count up to 27 with a few expert trails. Mount Snow drops as other mountains have just had better weeks but they still did open up Roller Coaster. Berkshire East remains the top option in Massachusetts while Cranmore has most trails off the backside open for skiing and riding.

26.  Black Mountain NH (-4)

27.  Attitash (+2)

28.  Jiminy Peak (NR)

29.  Big Rock (NR)

30.  Yawgoo Valley (NR)

Black Mountain saw Upper Black Beauty and a few more trails open this season that was the first to begin in New Hampshire while Attitash opened Morning Star and connected both Attitash and Bear Peak this weekend. Jiminy Peak may have the most terrain open in Massachusetts while Big Rock opened for the season with classic trails like Family Trail, Comet, and Uncle Bud’s. Yawgoo Valley saw a pow day on opening weekend with nearly half a foot of snow! They may not have the most terrain, most vertical, or newest lifts and rarely does Yawgoo get more than a couple inches of snow at a time so we’re going to put them in the rankings.

New To Rankings: Pico, Burke, Cranmore, Jiminy Peak, Big Rock, Yawgoo Valley
