This week was a slow week for New England in a sense that there was a little snow throughout the region but nothing that would make you get overly excited for. Most mountains kept their terrain the entire week while others made slight additions. For those who are new or forgot how these rankings work, think of it like the NCAA Top 25. Mountains move up the list based on snowfall, opening terrain, how well they hold onto terrain after major weather events and overall reputation among other factors. They can move down after closing terrain, other mountains getting more snow, and major lift malfunctions among other factors.

1.       Sugarloaf (+9)

2.       Jay Peak (=)

3.       Killington (+2)

4.       Cannon (-3)

5.       Mad River Glen (-1)

SuperQuad is now open as Sugarloaf jumps to the top spot in the rankings as their terrain is now more accessible. Last year’s top mountain Jay Peak has not missed a beat this year as they continue to benefit from the Jay Cloud. Killington jumps Cannon by a slim margin as they have the most open terrain in New England while Cannon has the best terrain in New Hampshire. Mad River Glen is one of the best mountain’s in Vermont if you like skiing all types of terrain and has lost no trails heading out of the weekend.

6.       Smugglers Notch (-3)

7.       Saddleback (=)

8.       Stowe (-2)

9.       Sugarbush (-1)

10.  Sunday River (+1)

Smuggler’s Notch drops a few spots after losing a couple of trails of Madonna while Saddleback sticks at seven as they continue to have all of their terrain open. Stowe closed a lot of expert trails off the Forerunner. Sugarbush and Sunday River continue to have great seasons and Sugarbush keeps the edge here as they only have trails closed due to racing.

11.  Bretton Woods (+2)

12.  Bolton Valley (=)

13.  Wildcat (-4)

14.  Waterville Valley (+3)

15.  Loon (-1)

Bretton Woods jumps up to 11 after continuing to have some of the best terrain in New Hampshire while Bolton Valley continues to be 100% open aside from routine lift closures like Wilderness Peak and Timberline Peak. Wildcat drops down after closing a little more terrain this week while Waterville jumps right behind them after reaching 100% open. Loon drops a spot as Waterville opened more challenging terrain.

16.  Magic Mountain (-1)

17.  Okemo (-1)

18.  Pico (=)

19.  Gunstock (+2)

20.  Mount Snow (-1)

Magic Mountain and Okemo slip behind Waterville Valley as both lost a small amount of terrain while Waterville only gained terrain. Pico remains 100% open and sticks at 18. Gunstock hops Mount Snow as they are similar mountains in different states except Gunstock has better views and night skiing.

21.  Ragged (+7)

22.  Stratton (-2)

23.  Bromley (+1)

24.  Black Mountain NH (-2)

25.  Attitash (-2)

Ragged jumps up in the rankings after as they continue to be 100% open with a lot of glade skiing and the Barnyard lift projects to open this week. Stratton drops a little but they still have great skiing all over the mountain while Bromley finally moves up in the rankings. Black Mountain and Attitash both get hopped by Ragged and are in similar situations snow wise.

26.  Pleasant Mountain (=)

27.  Mount Sunapee (-2)

28.  Burke (NR)

29.  Black Mountain of Maine (=)

30.  Camden Snowbowl (NR)

Pleasant Mountain has been extremely close to 100% open for most of the month while Sunapee slips below them after losing a few trails over the weekend. Burke jumps back into the ranking after getting back to 100% open. Black Mountain of Maine hosted last skier standing this weekend which saw Lukas Janulaitis win with 65 laps covering 169.7 miles while Camden Snowbowl hosted the 35th Annual U.S. Toboggan National Championships over the weekend!
