Shawnee Peak Name Change

Shawnee Peak has changed its name back to Pleasant Mountain. The mountain originally went under that name back in 1938 when it officially opened for the first time.

Pleasant Mountain said people overwhelmingly voted to bring back the name Pleasant Mountain in a spring survey.

The new logo is well thought out featuting the red pine tree as it is one of the oldest in Maine. The Polar Star represents the great views and Maine heritage. The skyline represents the environment that surrounds Pleasant Mountain.

The old name, Shawnee Peak was chosen by the previous owners in 1988 in order to keep it in line with another ski area called Shawnee Mountain. Boyne Resorts acquired the ski area in 2021 and have now changed the name back to Pleasant Mountain in 2022.

As for this winter, General Manager Ralph Lewis said, "You can expect to see updated signage when visiting this winter. What will not change are the familiar faces you have come to know over the years, the incredible history we have together, and the mountain you, your families, and friends have enjoyed for many winter seasons."
